Burj Khalifa, Shanghai Tower, World Trade Center – what is the first thing that comes to mind when you come across these names? The world’s tallest buildings, right? Soon, a new name will be added to the list and will rank at the top to become the world’s tallest building. With a soaring height of 3,281 ft, Jeddah Tower is reportedly to beat Burj Khalifa and other tallest buildings worldwide. The building is expected to be completed in the next four to five years.
According to the report, Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill of Adrian + Gordon Gill Architecture are designing this extraordinary structure. The duo describes the design as ‘Rooted in the symbolism of Saudi Arabia’, representing future growth for the kingdom with its slender, subtly asymmetrical form reminiscent of palm fronds reaching skywards.
The building is located in Jeddah, the second most populous city in Saudi Arabia, and will grace the city’s skyline as a sign and symbol of progress. The city is dotted with several other architectural wonders, like the Penang Floating Mosque and the historic AI Balad District, making it the top tourist attraction.
The construction of the tower commenced in 2013 but faced interruptions. One of the notable disruptions in making this building was the development within Binladin Group, the Project’s contractor. Further, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the progress. However, in September 2023, the constriction resumed.
Reportedly, the tower embodies a neo-futuristic ethos characterised by avant-garden design and cutting-edge technology. The Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) oversees the Project and ensures that it will be the best sightseeing in the world and will be visited by most tourists worldwide.
Functionally, Jeddah Tower will be a multi-purpose complex that includes residential, commercial, and office space. Additionally, it is set to offer an observation deck, a Four Seasons hotel, and a sprawling outdoor balcony originally designed as a helpline. So, are you ready to witness the next wonder in the world? Plan your trip and book a flight now!
