United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) added 6 new Madhya Pradesh (MP) destinations to its tentative list of world heritage sites. In 2021, UNESCO added 4 destinations from MP to its list of World Heritage Sites (WHS), making it a total of 10 destinations in the tentative list as of March 2024.
Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, Sheo Shekhar Shukla, said these newly added destinations to the WHS list would attract more international tourists, increasing global recognition. He further mentions that the MP Tourism Board sent the list of destinations. However, out of 9 potential sites sent to UNESCO, they nominated 6 destinations to their tentative list.
Shukla expressed his happiness that India’s permanent delegation to UNESCO informed us that the proposal submitted by MP (India) was accepted, and 6 sites were added to UNESCO’s Tentative list in March 2024. He further added the remaining 3 sites have been sent for consideration under the ‘serial nomination’ clause, and the MP Tourism board is working on it.
Destinations That Are Included In WHS List
MP already has 3 of its destinations on the permanent list of world heritage sites, and now 6 more are added to the tentative list, namely:

While expressing his happiness on the news, State Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav mentioned that the selection and approval of these cultural heritage sites served as a milestone achievement for India and her glorious past.
