The Goa State Government planned to promote waterfalls and other tourist attractions as certified tourism destinations. This decision by the government would positively affect tourism in the state. It is known to give a facelift to seasonal waterfalls and surrounding areas a proper recognition.
Goa is one of the most popular travel destinations in India. Though there are different tourist attractions like the sea, beaches, historical monuments, and local markets, the government decided to boost the beauty of waterfalls as well. Located in the western ghats, most waterfalls in Goa are seasonal and accentuate the beauty of the state. Goa has many waterfalls and natural sightseeing areas, but Tambdi Surla Falls, Harvalem waterfall, Kesarval Falls, and Netravali Falls are the names of a few prominent tourist areas.

In a statement, Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane said, “These waterfalls and government recognised tourist places would have perks like registration counters, picnic spots, bio-toilets, guides and proper foot walk area”.
The idea of recognising and promoting such tourist areas is to create infrastructure and support foot traffic to these natural places. This would lead to controlling the pollution caused in the area due to increased traffic, littering by tourists and overcrowding at one destination. Once they are controlled by the government, it would be easy to clean and maintain the serenity of these natural areas. Also, minimal fees would help in generating revenue which would result in taking proper care of the area.
