Newly appointed minister for tourism and information technology Rohan Khunte said ‘Instead of focusing on numbers, Goa tourism needs woo and attracting high-spending tourism for which urgent course correction is required. ’
Goa is required to bring board on all the stakeholders from the sector and prepare a proper roadmap that will make Goa one of the best tourist destinations in the world.
Khaunte also said ‘When in opposition, I had said that tourism needs a proper roadmap if it is to go ahead. ’ ‘A clear focus is needed to be there for quality tourism.’ He said that ‘Goa’s heritage, culture and backwater are the areas that need to be explored and promoted.’
Khaunte said ‘I will sit with the chief minister and decide on the priorities. The stakeholder is the main bread earners of the state and we need to work with them. Some reforms are required. ’
Rohan khaunte was appointed as the minister for the information and technology, revenue and labour and employment from 2017 to 2019 under the chief minister Manohar Parrikar. Though he was unceremoniously dropped by Sawant in 2019 and made his comeback in the cabinet.
He said ‘As the IT minister, I got to work under Parrikar and a lot was done for the IT sector. We created policies for the IT, startups, industries and we started the revolution. Though it was challenging a lot to stop the brain drain. I have the opportunity to complete the vision that the parrikar had. It is the opportunity to meet the expectations of the youth who feel the policies will help the state.’
The chief minister of Goa tourism expressed their hope that one day Goa tourism will become the world’s best tourism.
