The Sittong-III Homestay Owners’ Society, in collaboration with the Tourism Department of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and the ACT (Association for Conservation & Tourism), will host the second Darjeeling Eco-tourism & Cultural Festival. This festival will take place from February 7 to 9.
Organisers shared that the festival will be held at the Ahal ground, a prominent location under the Sittong-III council. It aims to boost rural tourism and showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The convener of ACT, Raj Basu, shared, “On the opening day, the fest will start with a reception featuring the Naumati Baja, a traditional all-women band from Nepal, followed by the inauguration of stalls and the festival. Guests will witness local cultural performances and unique events, such as a yam-eating contest and an ethnic dress contest”.
People searching for rural places for cultural holidays must visit here. On the second day, the festival begins with an early morning bird-watching session, followed by rock climbing, rappelling, and orchard tours. Momo-making contests will also be hosted for locals and tourists on the second day.
The final day of the festival will feature yoga and pranayama sessions followed by an orange-eating contest and rural games.
Local handicrafts and traditional food stalls will help tourists immerse themselves in the festivals. There would be 14 stalls specifically serving tourists with information about tourist destinations. Those staying in Sittong homestays during the festival will also get special discounts.
