The Ladakh region is a traveller’s paradise as well as a backpacker’s delight. In an attempt to escape the reality of daily life and unwind in the midst of nature, we all long for a journey where we can escape the stress of daily life. Peace can only be found in places that can give us peace, and Ladakh is such a place that can satisfy all of our needs.
The first day of spring marks the beginning of the busy season in Ladakh. During April, routes that were closed due to heavy snowfall are reopened. There are also many things to do in Ladakh in April. It is a perfect destination for tourism because the air is clean, the skies are blue, and the wind is light. The place is an amalgamation of beautiful physiognomies that make up the perfect vacation destination.
In this article, we have put together a list of places you must see in Ladakh in April. Explore these delightful destinations on your Ladakh tour and get closer to experiencing some blissful offerings.
1- Indian Astronomical Observatory
Located near Leh in Ladakh, India, the Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO) has one of the world’s highest-elevation optical, infrared, and gamma-ray telescopes. Bangalore’s Indian Institute of Astrophysics operates it.
The telescope is located at 4,500 meters (14,764 feet) above sea level, making it the ninth highest optical telescope in the world. The region is becoming one of the most exciting locations worldwide for the construction of the next generation of astronomical observatories, because of its clear nights, minimal light pollution, low background aerosol concentration, extremely dry weather conditions, and uninterrupted monsoons.
2- Turtuk Village
In your next Ladakh trip, you should include Turtuk in your itinerary since there are many scenic spots in this place. Located in Ladakh’s Nubra Valley, Turtuk is a tiny village. It is also the last village along the Indo-Pak border.
In this village, there is plenty of history to discover, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with locals about the places you might enjoy exploring. A trip to Turtuk Gompa provides breathtaking views of the surrounding area, as well as the Balti Heritage Home, Balti Museum and Balti Museum. With its sheer beauty, the town is nestled between snow-covered mountains.
Turtuk is a must-see whenever you visit the mysterious Ladakh. If you have tried either of these adventurous things to do in Sikkim, it will remind you of that. Make sure you bring your best camera because your Instagram will be flooded with photos.
3- Thiksey Monastery
Thicksey Monastery is affiliated with the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat sect of Buddhism and is located approximately 19 kilometers from the town of Leh. A 12-storey monastery is built on top of a hill, where the top of the hill houses the monastic complex and the residence of the head lama, while the foot of the hill has living quarters. The fort-like construction of the gompa is so similar to the Potala Palace of Tibet that it is sometimes referred to as the ‘Mini Potala’.
4- Tso Moriri
There are many beautiful, calm, and sacred (for Ladakhis) high altitude lakes in India, but Tso Moriri Lake in the Changthang region of Ladakh is the largest such lake in the country. The Tso Moriri Lake is a high altitude lake completely surrounded by Indian Territory.
Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve is part of the Ramsar site’s wetland reserve and is about 7 km wide at its widest point and approximately 19 km long. It is prohibited to pitch any camp or construct any accommodation near Tso Moriri. It’s the most elevated Ramsar site in the world. In the area, you will find flora and fauna.
While visiting, as you will be near the Line of Actual Control, you will need a permit for visiting Tso Moriri Lake, whether you are an Indian or a foreigner.
5- Nubra Valley
Khardongla pass (18,380 feet) is the highest motorable road in Nubra, with its majestic peaks and glaciers, enchanting valleys, and villages. Other major attractions include Diskit and Samstanling Gonpa, Panamik hot springs, double-humped camel safaris, river rafting, trekking, and sunbathing in Hunder’s sand dunes.
Some of the popular names of this valley are Ldumra or the valley of orchids/flowers. At an altitude of about 10,000 feet above sea level, Nubra is located in northern Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas. This area has a soft climate, fertile soil and a dense vegetation, compared to other areas of Ladakh.
