The Maha Kumbh 2025, held in Prayagraj, made history. Over 66 crore devotees from across the globe attended the congregation, making it the largest human gathering ever recorded. The event emerged as a major economic engine while remaining deeply religious. It drove transactions worth an estimated Rs 3 lakh crore and benefitted regions within a 150-kilometre radius.
Millions of people took a holy dip at the Sangam (the spot where the sacred Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet). All 13 Akharas actively participated in the event and supported it. The Kinnar Akhara, associated with Juna Akhara, became a major attraction of the event.
The Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara, Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, stated, “Mahakumbh is not just a gathering; it is a divine call to humanity to cleanse the mind and soul. The presence of millions of devotees reaffirms our faith in Sanatan Dharma.”
The state government estimates that the gathering generated Rs 54,000 crore in revenue. Around 60 lakh people benefitted from direct or indirect employment in hospitality, tourism, transportation, and local trade, led by unprecedented demand for accommodation, food services, and merchandise.
The 45-day Mahakumbh 2025 began on 13 January in Prayagraj, one of the places from the epic of Ramayana. It concluded on 26 February with a spectacular ending, marking the onset of religious tourism in India.
