About Hemkund and the Valley of flowers

Located at the height of 4,632 meters (15, 197 ft), amid seven mountain peaks. It is a 25 km trek from Govindghat. 

The Valley of Flowers is situated at an altitude of 3700-4000 meters in the West Himalayan region, covering an area of around 87.50 square km.   

Both destinations are the amazing gift of nature. You will fall in immense love with these destinations and they will call you back.

A guide to Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers

Govindghat to Ghangaria 

This is the starting point of Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers trek that almost covers 10 km. This route will take you through the beautiful river of the Zanskar ranges and its enchanting view. Sikh pilgrims will accompany you on this trek and give you an unforgettable experience. 

You can take a shared taxi up to 3 km, and then you need to trek to Gangaria. 

Tip- Start early in the morning to enjoy the pleasant weather and freshness of the natural beauty. You can either take a taxi to half the route or hire ponies to carry your luggage. There are dhabas along the way serving delicious tea and local food.

Ghangaria to Valley of Flowers to Ghangaria

You will reach Ghangaria by the evening. Rest amid the pleasing weather and enjoy the blissful moments in the mountains. Valley of Flowers is approximately 4KM from Ghangaria. Once you reach here, you can indulge in the waterfalls and can see the Pushpwati river gushing through the valley. The rich natural beauty spreads as far as you can see. On the Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers trek, it is something out of the box.

Tip- While trekking to the Valley of Flowers from Ghangaria, make sure you are with a group. Start in the early morning so that you can reach by the light. You will go through the picturesque view across the way, so get your camera ready to capture the captivating views. 

Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib to Ghangaria 

The distance to Hemkund Sahib from Ghangaria is 6 km, and it will take almost 4 hours. The trek is stiff but beautiful, therefore, you will not feel exhausted. You will walk through the colourful flowers and the green plants throughout the trek. After trekking for almost four hours, you will reach Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara. There is a holy pond outside the Gurdwara where you can take a dip and take blessings. After that, participate in the delicious langer and enjoy the hospitality of the Sikh community.  It is the midpoint between Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers that shouldn’t be missed. 

Tip- The Gurudrawa closes at 2 PM, so it is recommended to start in the early morning. You can experience heavy rainfall, so be prepared for the cloudy weather. 

Ghangaria to Govindghat

Ghangaria to Govindghat is the last trek, and it is 10 km. Do not be in a rush to get down because getting down is more complex than climbing. Stroll and enjoy the slop. You will be back to Govindghat in no time. 

Tip- Enjoy as much as you can because this is the last trek of Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers trip. 

Trekking Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers is a wonderful feeling. You can also visit nearby destinations such as Badrinath (24 Km from Govindghat) and Mana Village (the last village in India). Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand is a beautiful place and one of the most popular tourist destinations in India. It is a long trek between the variety of flowers and pleasant weather. It is important to build stamina to hike Hemkund and the Valley of Flowers as well.
