Known for its well-identified infrastructural development, the Karnataka government shared the plan of developing nine water aerodromes in the state. The Karnataka government is willing to spend a smaller amount on developing these aerodromes at the state level, as minister V Somanna believes this plan would help in promoting connectivity and tourism within the state.
Infrastructure Development Minister – V Somanna identified some potential locations like Kali River, Tungabhadra, Byndur, Mangaluru, KRS, Hidkal, Linganamakki, Malpe, and Almatti to develop the nine water aerodromes in the coming years. These water aerodromes would be used as an open space for seaplanes and aircraft for easy landing or take-offs. This step by the Karnataka Government is considered a milestone in the tourism industry to facilitate connectivity, easy medical emergency services etc. Along with this people expect the government’s decision to have other economical benefits in the industry like horticulture, medical, technology, and agriculture.
“Measures are being taken to acquire the 240 acres of land and hand it over to the Airports Authority of India for runway extension and upgrades at the Mysore airport. Apart from this, new airports have been developed in Kalaburagi and Bidar districts earlier and more routes are being explored for viability,” the minister said.
The minister further added that the state government is working on other projects alongside. This includes setting up helipads in areas like Madikeri, Hampi and Chikmagalur, as this too would help in boosting tours and travel of the region.
