The Ministry of Civil Aviation made a shocking move to increase the security of airport terminals in India. It has ordered airline companies and travel agencies to issue flight tickets and boarding passes with QR codes. The new guidelines will prevent suspicious people from entering the terminals, posing as passengers.
Recently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation noticed people were entering the airport terminals using cancelled or fake tickets. After this, the ministry issued an advisory, considering that terrorists can also enter airport terminals, causing chaos. Currently, security officers check the tickets and ID cards and admit passengers to the airports. However, passengers change their tickets when entering the airport terminals. The QR code reader installed on the gates can easily identify such changes and pinpoint fake tickets.
Currently, air tickets are produced at Cochin International Airport, ensuring high security at the terminal. Around 90 per cent of passengers receive and use these tickets. However, this system has yet to be executed in most international terminals, such as Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Telangana, Gaya Airport in Bihar, Kempegowda International Airport in Karnataka, etc. The delay in the system execution is a result of the large number of passengers who carry tickets issued by international airline companies.

After receiving instructions from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, international airline companies have directed passengers to complete the check-in process online and get boarding passes with QR codes. The DigiYatra app users easily receive QR codes online. Considering this, the Civil Aviation Minister, K Rammohan Naidu, shared on Thursday that twelve airports will implement the DigiYatra facility.
