India’s Longest River Cruise To Start From 2023

The longest river cruise service is all set to start in 2023 between Varanasi and Bogibeel. Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal shared the information and stated that the service will cover a 4000 km longest journey between the cities; this would connect the cities through waterways. The cruise would travel across the river Ganga and Brahmaputra from IBPR (Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route). 

Minister further added that the cruise service would usher different new opportunities for the natives in Assam. This would ultimately promote trade, tourism, livelihood and transportation services over a long distance. The cruise service would take an authorised route over the national waterways – 2, also known as a popular route over the river Brahmaputra.

Reports suggest, “Two floating jetties at Bogibeel in Dibrugarh district and Guijan in Tinsukia district will be constructed by the top constructors of Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).” These jetties are to be built at a sufficient cost of INR 8.25 crore. This process is said to be completed at the beginning of 2023. 

The whole process is planned to provide hassle-free services to the native people and the industry sector. A plan for building a permanent cargo terminal in Varanasi and Bogibeel is also pipelined.
