Flight tickets are very expensive, probably why 80% of the world’s population has never flown. However, the statistics may change soon. According to reports, the key to snagging the best deals lies in booking your flights on specific days of the week. You can save a good amount by aligning your travel plans with certain booking days.
A recent study from Upgrade Points shows that there is a scoring deal on a particular day of the week, but more savings can be found when you select by airline. For example, United Airlines flight prices are higher on Thursdays and Fridays but cheapest on Sundays.
On the other hand, most airlines offer the cheapest fares on Mondays and Tuesdays, with an almost 5.2% discount on total airfare. However, passengers who book flights on Saturdays will have to pay higher fares than usual, with a 7.3 per cent increase in the average ticket cost. For instance, if the average price of the flight is Rs. 3,999, a passenger can expect it for Rs. 3,791 after a discount and Rs. 4,290 after an increase.
In the research, it is also found that not all airlines follow these guidelines. Every airline has its own criteria. For example, American Airlines has the fewest changes based on the booked day; however, Thursdays and Fridays are comparatively cheaper, per the reports. Delta Airlines had cheaper prices on Thursdays, with an average saving of $35. JetBlue and Spirit offer low-cost flights on Mondays and Tuesdays.
“While the flight prices we’ve explored change daily, one thing remains constant: the importance of informed decision-making in travel booking. As prices continue to rise, savvy travellers will be looking to save where they can,” Upgraded Points Founder and CEO Alex Miller said in the report.
This research analyzed over 44,ooo different flights for four weeks to determine the price fluctuation. However, it didn’t include Southwest Airlines. Previous studies have shown that booking flights no more than 2.5 months before departure offers good deals.
Additionally, for extra savings on airlines, consider the secret tips; most airlines offer discounts and offers related to particular events or celebrations.
