Mount Fuji, Japan’s most iconic and beloved landmark, faces an uncertain future. Mount Fuji attracts millions of tourists yearly, whether adventurers eager to climb its summit or photographers who always seek to capture mesmerising natural beauty. However, the increase in tourism has had a significant environmental impact. To save it from deterioration, a barrier was installed following complaints from residents. The crowd, mainly international visitors, also created chaos while attempting to photograph the iconic view.
However, now, when disruption is reduced, the barrier is temporarily removed. The town decided to lower the restrictions and not install the screen for now. “We want to observe the effects of its removal”, the town official told AFP.
“While there are still some visitors at the site, we no longer see many people abruptly darting into traffic to cross the road,” the official added.
